Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus is celebrating 30 years of community musicals on May 11, 2008, with a Mother’s Day Extravaganza at the Omak Performing Arts Center. The extravaganza will begin at 2:00 PM and will consist of a review of past musical performances under the direction of Heather Zosel. Long-time costume designer, Susan Graves, will again provide stunning costumes for the performers.
Musical numbers will feature many familiar names and favorite songs, including a medley of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance” sung by Marile and Steve Kunkel, Larry Witt, Billie Ekstrom, Tim Schell, Patrick Ader, and Katie Williams.
Kim Harriman will sing “Oh, What A Beautiful Morning”, from “Oklahoma”, and Amelia Hanron, “Tomorrow”, from “Annie”. Other soloists include Tina Schmidt, Michael Self, Howard Zosel, and Peg Finch. Watch for the Cat in the Hat (Doug Leese) to put in an appearance as well.
The orchestra and chorus will join the performers with several group numbers, featuring Nancy Zahn, Joel Yelland, Jeannie Kapple, Hillary Bellini, Carine Wood, and Don Pearce. The nuns will sing selections from “The Sound of Music”.
Prior to the performance, a gourmet luncheon will be served at 12:30 in the multipurpose room of the PAC. The menu - created and provided by Susan, who’s father was a notable chef on Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco - will be an exciting four-course treat.
