Mother's Day Extravaganza

The Inside Story!

Discussions with OVOC Producer Susan Graves, long time costume mistress for the Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus and other groups in the Okanogan area, gives us the inside scoop on the menu, members and sponsors of this "Mother's Day Extravaganza" to be performed at the Omak PAC on Sunday, May 11th, 2008.

The "Gourmet Luncheon"  will begin at 12:30 pm, enough time before the show to enjoy yourself, and late enough for those participating in other activities to still come and partake of this scrumtious meal.  The menu, created and provided by Susan, (who's father was a notable chef for a swank restaraunt in California) will consist of several mouth watering dishes and even a "kid friendly" main course for those worried about the gourmet part of the meal.

According to Susan herself, the meal will begin with a Starter of a Bread and Roll Medley accompanied by a Pesto Torta, Butter and Olive Topenade.  That will be followed by a Salad consisting of Spring Greens, Susan's own secret herb dressing with a topping of pine nuts, dry cherry tomatoes, parmesan chesse, carrots and celery. Fasten your seat belts for the main course, a mouth watering - Rotolo Di Spinaci ala Tuscany - a pasta roll filled with spinach, ricotta cheese, mushrooms and chicken, wrapped in roasted bell peppers and topped with a poached tomato puree. For those wanting a milder menu, Susan will also have a three cheese pasta on hand as a main dish. Dessert will consist of a Sherry Wine Cake with Apricot Sauce and cream.  Accompanying this wonderful menu, beverages available will include a grape cranberry sparkling punch, tea and coffee.

The "Extravaganza" part of the show, set to begin at 2:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center,  will consist of a review of past Musical performances presented over the last 30 years by the Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus. Under the keen direction of Heather Zosel, OVOC brings back many original performers and adds several new ones to present songs from past favorite musicals such as "Seussical the Musical", "Oklahoma", "Man of La Mancha", "Brigadoon", "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Annie" to name a few. Susan Graves will costume some of these characters to provide the mood for their songs, and the Orchestra will perform on stage instead of in the traditional "Pit".  The Chorus will be in the background providing a solid base for this production.
